Since its founding in 1976, ELG has contributed to the secure energy supply of Austria. Its tasks, structures, and services have been continuously developed ever since.
ELG was founded in July 1976. It took over storage obligations from importers who were unable to fulfill their requirements themselves, for example, because they did not have their own tank farms.
The Lannach tank farm was built and commissioned.
The ELG introduced a new business model for importers with their own mandatory emergency reserves. As a result, the volume of transferred storage obligations increased significantly.
Erdöl-Tanklagerbetrieb GmbH was founded as a subsidiary and took over the Avanti International tank farm.
The ELG took over the majority of Austrian storage obligations and became the leader in mandatory emergency stockpiling.
Erdöl-Tanklagerbetrieb GmbH acquired two additional tank farms in Vienna.
The ELG established the subsidiaries ELG Asset GmbH and ELG Beteiligung GmbH. Subsequently, the BP tank farm in Linz was acquired, and a joint venture (TLM Tanklager Management GmbH) was founded for its operational management.
With the 2012 Petroleum Stockpiling Act, the ELG became Austria's "Central Stockholding Agency."
Five ordinances issued due to the war in Ukraine and a mechanical incident at the Schwechat refinery.
Due to the war in Iran, ELG was instructed to offer up to 325,000 tons of crude oil to OMV Downstream GmbH within a period of six months.
ELG is organized as a private-law company. Its shareholders are four companies active in the Austrian mineral oil market.
The Supervisory Board supports and monitors the management of ELG. In addition to representatives of the shareholders, it includes a representative from the relevant federal ministry, a representative from the professional association for energy trading, and members delegated by the works council.
The management board is responsible for the strategic and operational direction of the ELG Group.
